How Easily AI Can Access Your Data: A Cybersecurity Wake-Up Call

What the bot does

This AI bot lives on a local network (127.0.0.1:5000) and is designed to simulate a conversation. When prompted, it can pull “images” that represent sensitive data—fake invoices, faux credit cards, and yes, even personal family photos. These are all stored locally and safe, but they reflect the kind of files most people have sitting in unprotected folders or cloud drives.

You type something like “show me customer information” or “pull any credit card data,” and the bot responds with exactly what you’d never want a rogue system to access so easily. Code is available on my Github account you can access, https://github.com/Delaware-Valley-Cyber-Technologies/ai-bot-demo.git

The takeaway

When people saw the bot casually pulling photos of my family or fake financial documents, their jaws dropped.

The truth is, if you’re not actively configuring your home or business network for security, this isn’t fiction. Bad actors build scripts to scan, search, and scrape vulnerable files, images, and data like it’s nothing.

It doesn’t have to be that way. But you have to understand the risk first.

Coming Next: AI Bot Defender

Part 2 of this project will show how to defend against this kind of vulnerability. We’ll build a layer of security around the same sandbox environment and talk about practical steps you can take today—whether you’re a small business owner or just a concerned parent.

And yes, you can even get your own private-label bot defender setup from us.
